Jessica Simpson Album Debuts Below Expectations

On this week’s Billboard charts, (provided by Nielson SoundScan) pop star Jessica Simpson debuted in fifth place on the US charts and 6th place on Canadian charts with her latest effort ‘A Public Affair’. With sales of 101,000, this was a first-week personal best for Simpson. Her last success being ‘Irresistible’ when it opened in sixth place. However, the sales of ‘A Public Affair’ fell short of studio expectations of around 200,000 – 300,000 copies for the first week. ‘A Public Affair’ wasn’t even strong enough to sell as many copies as her pop rival Christina Aguilera who had been on the charts for three weeks. This week Aguilera’s ‘Back to Basics’ declined 25% for a sales of result of 101,000 – 102,000 records and has been certified Gold by the RIAA. Moreover, Paris Hilton’s effort ‘Paris’ has fallen a significant twenty-seven places to land in thirty-third selling less than 28,000 copies – a sales decline of 63%. A final sales result for the Heiress Records album could be around 175,000 copies.
