Jewel’s ‘Britney Sucks’ Chant Was In Jest

David Burke of the Quad City Times reviewed Jewel’s concert Thursday night (March 18) at the RiverCenter Adler Theatre, where shortly before the show, an audience member acknowledged Britney Spears was playing across the river, and tried to start a chant of “Britney sucks.” Jewel repeated, “Britney sucks, Britney sucks, kill her!”, prompting cheers from the audience. Then she stopped and said, “I wasn’t encouraging it, I was making fun of it,” comparing the behavior to ‘Lord of the Flies’.
