Keith Spera of The Times-Picayune reviewed John Mayer’s show at the UNO Lakefront Arena on Friday night. He writes, “That regular-guy charm, coupled with a formidable ability to craft acoustic-pop hits, has afforded him his celebrity. Such stardom has its advantages, financial and otherwise; for him to abandon the proven methods of pop hooks is unlikely. Yet Mayer’s current CD, ‘Heavier Things’, is a more interesting, more fully realized record than his 3 million-selling 2001 debut, ‘Room for Squares’, and its acoustic guitar-dominated arrangements. This time around, the electric guitar is given a more prominent role.”
