USA Today music critic Steve Jones took part in an online chat Tuesday (June 21), where he was asked about what the future holds for Michael Jackson following the singer’s acquittal on child molestation charges. “I don’t think that this trial has changed a lot for Michael Jackson,” Jones said. “The verdict let him avoid conviction and jail, but even the jury seemed unconvinced of his innocence. Michael’s career has been in a tailspin since he was first accused a decade ago. It’s been even longer since he’s really done anything of musical significance. ‘Invincible’ saw him trying to catch up to trends, where he used to be cutting edge. I’m not sure that he can recapture the magic on record again. An overseas tour would be huge, but if he tours the USA, he’d be constantly dogged by questions and he may not want that.” Read more.
