Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Gemma Tarlach gave her thoughts on the year in music and started out by slamming Britney Spears. Said Tarlach, “In pop music, 2001 began – and ended – with Britney’s belly button, on Jumbotron display first at the Super Bowl, then in a Pepsi ad and finally on tour around the nation. Apparently, it was the biggest selling point for an artist better known for lip-synching other people’s songs than for any innate musical talent.”
