Justin Guarini Helped Mom Through Cancer Scare

Globe magazine spoke with Kathy Guarini, the 53-year-old mother of ‘American Idol’ runner-up Justin Guarini, who revealed she’s “doing well” following her cancer scare. “Justin was very calm and stoic,” says Kathy about the surgery that occurred during the competition’s final week. “He would sit next to me and very quietly tell me what was happening on the show. He really helped me through the horrendous ordeal. The experience brought us closer together.” Justin’s currently recording his debut album and will begin working on a movie with Idol champ Kelly Clarkson in January.
