Justin Timberlake Says Teen Pop Will Never Die

The teen pop genre helped to make *NSYNC star a superstar, but now that the genre appears to be fading, what does Timberlake think of the “death of teen pop” talk? “As long as there are teens and as long as we have culture with popular music in it, teen pop will never die,” Timberlake told Next magazine. “It just takes on a different form. Years ago it was Nirvana and then it turned into Britney and now it’s 50 Cent. So, teen pop is whatever the kids in the suburbs are listening to. I don’t really have a formula. I just go in the studio and do what I enjoy doing. And I think that as you grow as a person, you grow as a musician and as a songwriter. That’s how I’ve gone beyond just the teen thing.”

Spoken like a true lou pearlman clone he’s obviously enjoying the perks that come with that: money made from lip balm, lunch boxes, and commercials

  2. dogs_makemesneeze says:

no he did not just say that. Nirvana is nothing like Britney or the garbage that comes out of Justin’s mouth. This article isn’t even worth reading. Nirvana wasn’t a *****ing trend, it was great true music, you moron Justin.I hope this boy gets what he deserves fast. Nirvana is still my favorite band and even to read him say their name makes me cringe.I hope he rots in hell.

Pop means popular, during the early nineties the Seattle sound was very popular and Nirvana was one of the biggest bands. I don’t think he was trying to compare their music to his, I think he was trying to compare their popularity to his. Anyways, if you don’t like Justin, then why read anything about him.

  4. jcsfan88 says:

yea, Nirvana’s music isn’t like Britney’s. that’s not what he meant. he’s saying nirvana was popular then Britney and now 50 Cent is pop. it’s not cool to wish he would rot in hell.

  5. breez says:

uh yeah nirvana was a trend you moron. any music that’s popular is…..do you see any of the other grunge bands from early 90’s keeping their popularity? if Kurt hadn’t died nirvana would have faded away…..along with the simplistic music.

  6. dogs_makemesneeze says:

ok..first off Nirvana was not pop.it was grunge rock..ok you got that? and second. maybe its not nice for me to write that, but I do mean it, and its not cool that Kurt Cobain is dead but its the truth, and Justin rotting in hell is also the truth. Its gonna happen soon. and no I do not like Justin or his music for a number of reasons, but because of his “looks”he is a top artist and there are basically no other stories to comment on. and I have been to his show in San Jose, and I was not impressed at all.

  7. dogs_makemesneeze says:

you just contradicted yourself there. If Nirvana was just a trend, their music wouldn’t be listened to by people all over today..trends are supposed to fade quickly..and no its not because of Kurt’s death that no one will forget Nirvana. Its because the music was just raw and so connected to how I and many other people feel..that’s not a trend ok? if you’ve ever really connected with a person or a band like that, you’d know what I mean..

AND NOT ONLY THAT, BUT NIRVANA WASNT ABOUT THEIR PERSONAL LIVES..THAT’S NOT HOW THEY SOLD RECORDS..I KNOW KURT HAD PROBLEMS, BUT THAT’S NOT WHY I LIKED NIRVANA’S MUSIC

*sigh* elgato what the hell is your prob what do you get off by dissing Nsync and Justin ? Because you know that’s really sad. I bet you run to your friends going ” Oh My God you guys I totally dissed Justin and I called him a f*g and a Lou Pearlman clone and like totally showed those Nsync/Justin fans. oh man BSB totally rox I’ll make like a johova (sp?) witness and convert everyone to BSB fans…” seriously I’m not going to call you any names or ? your sexuality but for real be a real man I now the ladies would love that…

Justin is telling the truth. Whatever is considered popular basically is what the teens are buying. The teens are the ones who make up about half of the buying costumers when it comes to buying CDs. So, therefore teen pop will never die because most teens buy CDs from the popular artist.

  10. dogs_makemesneeze says:

NO HE IS NOT TELLING THE tRUTH. POP DOES NOT MEAN WHAT IS POPULAR ANY MORE.MAYBE IT DID ABOUT 50 OR 60 SOME ODD YEARS AGO, BUT NOT ANYMORE.I COULD ENLIGHTEN YOU BRAINWASHED DRONES BUT THIS WHOLE TOPIC HAS JUST LEFT ME BUMMED .I MEAN this is what the state of music today has come to.its alright though.I know Kurt is still with us in spirit and so its ok. Justin’s life is like that of a and I know that he would not like a person like Justin comparing his band to their music, but he’d deal with it.which is what I’m gonna do. goodnight

I’m sorry the kid is 15 and even though at 15 people like to fight against people saying its just puppy love but guess what it was. It even proves it because they’re not together anymore. He even admitted on Tom Green they started dating at 13 , now come on how can you have a ‘serious’ relationship at that age?!

  13. Dancer4Life says:

For one I’m not brainwashed and in my opinion pop can be considered what is popular today. Justin never compared Kurt’s band to his. He was just saying that Nirvana was and still is popular today. It’s obvious that the grunge deal didn’t stay around to long. It seemed like something that was more of a fade, but Nirvana was one of the popular groups to come out of it.

  14. FlipperBaby says:

How DARE Justin F’in Timberlake put NIRVANA and Britney Spears in the same category. He obviously does not know anything about music. Does Britney write her own songs , and play her own music? Pop music has come to mean more than popular. To say all popular music is ‘pop’ (which has its own distinct sound like the other genres) is ignorant. Justin, stick to what you know, which is solely pop music and don’t even talk about NIRVANA like that again, especially in the same sentence as Britney Spears.
