R.J. Carter of The Trades caught up with Katharine McPhee for a Q&A and asked the ‘American Idol’ season five runner-up what sort of cautionary tale, if any, should newly famous singers and idols like herself take from them to avoid some of the horrible cycles of self-destruction other young stars have faced. “I would say not believing your own press or reading everything that’s written about you,” McPhee responded. “We got really good reviews on the record – I didn’t really read a whole lot of them. That was sort of my method to the madness. Whether it’s good or bad, you just don’t read it. Then you can keep yourself in a reality in a business that’s not really in reality.” Read more.
