Katharine McPhee checked in with her MySpace friends on Friday (January 9). The ‘American Idol’ season five runner-up writes:
It is already the first week of the new year of 2009. Wow. How did that happen. Happy New Year everyone!!! I hope you all had a great holiday and new year.
I wanted to say thank you so much for all of you who so generously donated to the cause in Africa. I was so stunned. Please know that I know how difficult things can get financially and the fact that you actually took the time and pulled personal money means so much. It is going to change a village in Africa.
All my love and this should be an exciting new year.

Yes, what a horrible phony for thanking her fans for donating to her charity!!! What the hell is wrong with you Kat haters anyway, if you don’t like her then don’t read stuff about her. Katharine is amazing, always has been, always will be.

Does Katharine give any money to this? I mean kinda greedy if she expects just fans to give. She wears expensive clothing, handbags, and flashy stuff, she has plenty of cash to give out.
Maybe her school would be like Oprah’s lol.
They have no oversight on the schools, they use tack their name and mention it.

Amazing how a sweet message re:a humanitarian effort can be so maligned by these trolls!
This was a surprise gift to Kat…she did not expect anything from her fans.
Kat has dedicated herself to “giving back” ever since she left Idol.She has supported numerous charity events..as well as visiting sick kids in the hospital.
Kat is anything but a phony!
What have you done to help others…Barbara and PopFan?
Wouldn’t you wear great clothes if you were celebs?Jealous much?

Popfan, to answer your question, yes, she does, not that you care since you’re just trying to find something to complain about. And Barbara, if you can’t back up your statement, it means nothing, just like you do. The woman cares and is making a difference, which I’m sure is more than you’ve done in your entire miserable life.

Wow, Katharine McPhee is already helping to support charities? She’s not even a big star with a ridiculous salary. It’s very nice to know that her heart is in the right place. She even gets her fans to chip in. Very sweet :)

Well I mean her husband got her a 100k engagement ring, she drives that Mercedes CLS I saw in some pics which is like a 70kcar. Shes loaded with $$.

I never cease to be amazed at how many people are actively following the life and career of someone they turn around and vilify as much as they can. Why bother? Katharine not only gives money, she gives her time to the charities she supports (yes, we’ve seen pictures, it’s not just fan idolatry) and keeps in touch with her fans, which is much appreciated. She’s a gracious and generous young lady as well as a talented one.

PopFan…you’ve totally missed the point!Why not ask yourself why youpass judgement on a person based on superficial material things?
In spite of being financially comfortable,Katharine has dedicated herself and her time to caring for others.
Kat is a person of character;unlike many of her contemporaries.
And BTW…..just because someone is driving an expensive car…doesn’t mean they own it….does the word”lease” mean anything to you?HELLO!!!

Do I suspect some jealousy in posts which talk about Katharine’s income and possessions? Kat is incredibily talented and is an extremely hard worker. She has made her money by EARNING it, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Now if she can use her fame and influence to raise money for charity, then that is very admirable as well.

Groucho, the reason they put down people like Katharine is because they’re so miserable in their own lives, and dissing somebody that’s obviously more successful than they are makes them feel better about themselves.
