Kelly Clarkson In ‘Starship Troopers 2’?
The Long Island Press reports last season’s ‘American Idol’ champ Kelly Clarkson is reportedly set for the lead role in ‘Starship Troopers 2’.
Kelly Clarkson’s Debut Seems Too Crafted
May 3, 2003 – Ariel Ronneburger of The Cornell Daily Sun reviewed last season’s ‘American Idol’ champ Kelly Clarkson’s debut album ‘Thankful’, giving it 2 1/2 stars. Ronneburger writes, “Clarkson’s debut just seems too crafted by music industry bigwigs; the obvious commercial drive behind her management affects both the sound and lyrics. While ‘Thankful’ shows there’s no question about Clarkson’s credibility as a gifted vocalist, the entire CD has the feel of a sweet Texas girl being shoved into the spotlight — from her airbrushed image on the cover to the carefully crafted sure-to-be radio hits.”
Divas 2003 Shapes Up
April 26, 2003 – The RU Report hears that Whitney Houston and Lisa Marie Presley are in final talks to be a part of this year’s VH1 ‘Divas 2003’ festivities, which will be broadcast live on May 22nd at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Hotel. Ru adds, “Don’t be surprised if next week’s Billboard magazine chart-topper Kelly Clarkson, Grammy winning R&B legend Patti LaBelle and the ‘diva’ with the most #1 pop records Mariah Carey, who has appeared on two previous ‘Divas’ TV specials, are announced shortly.”
Kelly Clarkson Is A Happy Chart-Topper
April 24, 2003 – Access Hollywood caught up with Kelly after she learned her debut album ‘Thankful’ had topped the charts in its opening week, selling 298,000 copies. “I’m glad people are liking it. People are writing my mom and my friends saying how they love it, saying it’s so versatile,” Kelly said.
‘Dreadful’ Is More Like It
April 23, 2003 – Jim Farber of the New York Daily News blasted the debut solo album by Kelly Clarkson. Farber says of ‘Thankful’, “‘Dreadful’ is more like it. Imagine the dullest cuts on a Mariah Carey or Christina Aguilera record sung by someone at a theme park outside Dubuque, Iowa. The material hews close to those singers’ favored mix of faux R&B, gospel and pop.”
Kelly Clarkson Shoots Off 50 Cent
April 22, 2003 – Contributed by elgato: According to HitsDailyDouble.com, Kelly’s debut album ‘Thankful’ will debut at #1 on the Billboard album chart, selling around 300,000. 50 Cent’s album wasn’t able to reclaim the #1 spot, despite being packaged with a new DVD that gives insight into 50’s life and his crew G-Unit. The DVD/CD called ‘The New Breed’ will have to settle for the #2 spot. Fleetwood Mac’s new album will come in at #3. Other top 10 debuts include Darryl Worley and Jimmy Buffet. Linkin Park, Now 12, Cher, and Norah Jones all remain in the top 10.
Kelly Clarkson Ready To Go Global
April 22, 2003 – Kelly hopes to conquer the UK, something her ‘Pop Idol’ counterpart Will Young hasn’t been able to accomplish in the U.S. “I’m not materialistic, but I am ambitious,” Clarkson told Launch. “I’d love to break globally and can’t wait to go to England. There is so much ahead of me and I’m really grateful for that. It all seems to be happening so quickly that it’s hard to stop and think.”
