Kelly, Jessica & Nick Perform At Rodeo Houston

According to the Houston Chronicle, at Rodeo Houston on Tuesday night, Jessica Simpson with husband Nick Lachey gave a barely average pop performance. Nick opened the show performing ‘This I Swear.’ When Nick turned the stage over to Jessica, it became the Simpson show, though it was marred by technical difficulties. She opened with ‘I Think I’m In Love’ and followed with one of her favorites, ‘I Wanna Love You Forever.’ She strained during the latter part of the song, and her voice faded in and out because of microphone problems. “I can sing sexy songs cause I’m married now,” Simpson said, then sang ‘Sweetest Sin,’ again straining her voice at the song’s end. Nick joined Jessica for their finale, ‘Take My Breath Away.’ Their performance, however, was anything but breathtaking. Kelly Clarkson rounded out the evening of pop music and was clearly the one with the powerhouse voice. In a cowboy hat and T-shirt that said “Dirrty South,” Clarkson opened playing guitar and singing ‘Low.’ She continued the set with ‘The Trouble With Love Is.’ Her rendition of a Reba McEntire hit, ‘Why Haven’t I Heard from You’, could put her against almost any country star. Kelly was energetic with ‘You Thought Wrong’ and ‘A Moment Like This.’ With ‘Miss Independent,’ Clarkson took command of the stage, and her voice was powerful, showing just who was the real star of the night.
