Kina Grannis Discusses Super Bowl Ad, Being Major Label-less

spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about her decision to give up a major label deal with Interscope and go at it alone. “Major labels still have a role, but people can just do it without them now,” Grannis explained. As for becoming an overnight star after winning a Doritos Super Bowl contest and having her music played during the most watched television event in 2008, Grannis said, “Getting your music video played during the Super Bowl is pretty amazing. But the biggest thing going into that, was let me use this as an opportunity to put everything I have into sharing my music during the two months of the contest. That’s when I started my YouTube [page].”
