Like TV Show, Jessica Simpson’s Pop Missing The Sizzle

Joshua Klein of the Chicago Tribune was on hand for Jessica Simpson’s concert at the Tweeter Center Tuesday night (July 6). Klein writes, “Surprisingly, Simpson filled virtually all of Tweeter’s seats, plus a small part of the cheaper lawn seating, no small feat considering the rain clouds that hovered menacingly. From the start, Simpson was hardly shy about her various TV projects and the role they played in her recent success. Underscoring the debt Simpson owes to television, a huge video monitor hung center stage. The overwhelmingly young and female crowd even cheered for the breath-mint commercial featuring Jessica and her younger sister Ashlee. The sad truth about Simpson is that her recognition factor is strictly skin deep. As a singer, she’s at best proficient, and whether covering Donna Summer’s ‘She Works Hard for the Money’, or even her own ‘Angels’ and ‘Be’, Simpson seemed as concerned with hitting her marks as hitting her high notes.”
