Lou Pearlman Likens Backstreet Boys To Coke, *NSYNC To Pepsi

Pop guru and billion dollar businessman Lou Pearlman, the man who put together pop sensation boybands and the , has just released his autobiography, ‘Bands, Brands, and Billions’. In the book, Pearlman compares Backstreet to Coke, writing, ‘If Backstreet turns out to be a dominant brand like Coke, someone is going to come along and create a Pepsi. We might as well beat them to it.’ Pearlman’s Pepsi, is of course, . He continues, ‘I identified the popular music market and, more specifically, the teenage girl audience as the primary target for the music and merchandise of the Backstreet Boys. My challenge was to convince the millions and millions of teen pop music buyers that the Backstreet Boys were the brand name band they should buy into.’
