The National Enquirer reports producers at ‘American Idol’ worked hard to keep the love affair between finalists Kelly Clarkson and Justin Guarini under wraps, worried the show’s ratings and Justin’s popularity would be affected by his huge following of teen girls. An insider revealed, “Justin and Kelly were spending so much time together, producers hired separate cars to pick them up and drop them off, and they gave them separate changing rooms.” The two were single before the show started, and after one performance “they were holding hands and hugging as if they were boyfriend and girlfriend. Then they slipped off quietly to a room together. The next day, the whole studio was abuzz with talk that Justin and Kelly had spent the night together — and many more nights after that.”

September 20, 2002 – Entertainment Tonight was on hand for the rehearsal for the American Idol in Las Vegas special which airs next Monday on Fox. Kelly Clarkson and Reba McEntire teamed on Reba’s hit ‘Does He Love You’ and Kelly was obviously excited about the opportunity to sing with her own idol. “I’m in love with her. I think she’s — I mean she has so many hits, and she’s just a great person in general, inside and out,” Kelly gushed. For her part, Reba sees big things in Kelly’s future. “She’s gonna be very, very, very big in this business,” said McEntire.

September 16, 2002 – The Las Vegas Review Journal reports Justin was spotted Saturday at the MGM Grand. Meanwhile, Michael Jackson took part in another magic tricks shopping spree at Houdini’s Magic Shop on Sunday at the Grand Canal Shops at The Venetian. They closed the shop while a full force of security guards stood by.

September 11, 2002 – Stu Bykofsky of the Philadelphia Daily News reports ‘American Idol’ runner-up Justin Guarini isn’t allowed to talk about it, but a source close to the Guarini family claims Justin has a Broadway contract in the six-figure range.
Justin Guarini Appealing $100 Traffic Fine
September 10, 2002 – The Morning Call reports Justin will soon make an appearance in Easton – if he shows up to appeal a guilty finding on a summary traffic violation. The new star was found guilty June 12 by District Justice Barbara Schlegel of Bethlehem of following too closely. Bethlehem police issued the citation March 12, when Guarini’s car bumped into a car in the 3000 block of Center Street, at Johnston Drive, Bethlehem. Guarini paid a $100 fine, then appealed Schlegel’s finding. His attorney Douglas C. Roger Jr. commented, ”Whether or not he’s here on the 18th remains to be seen. I can’t even reach him to get a comment. His life is much different now. We may have to ask for a continuance.”
