NorthJersey.com reports that in the dark and eerie ‘X-STaTIC PRo=CeSS’ exhibition by photographer Steven Klein, Madonna is anything but a glamour-puss. She’s a grotesque yogi, twisted atop a worn, wooden table. A gyrating pole dancer in black leather and feathers. A wilted waif, flailing between the rods of a metal headboard. A dark prophet echoing verses from the book of Revelation. “It’s the world beneath the surface of Madonna,” says Klein, whose previous works were featured in Calvin Klein, Versace, and Gucci ads and the covers of W and Vogue magazines. “I always viewed her as a performance artist, not as a pop star.”
