Madonna Movie Turns Off Test Audiences

Madonna’s husband Guy Ritchie is re-editing the couple’s remake of the Italian classic “Swept Away” after test audiences found the film muddled and misogynistic, according to New York’s Daily News.
The couple’s remake of Lina Wertmuller’s 1974 classic, which tells the story of a rich woman and a rough sailor marooned together on an island, includes Madonna receiving a savage beating as a prelude to love-making.
The film — which carries the working title “Love, Sex, Drugs And Money” — turned off test audiences, and Ritchie (”Snatch”) has been tinkering with the film to bolster its appeal.
“Some people love it. Others are horrified. It’s certainly not breeding indifference,” Ritchie’s representative, Kris Thykier, told The Daily News.
“There is violence in the relationship, but it grows out of passion rather than abuse. People are going to be blown away by Madonna’s performance. Guy isn’t worried.”
Adds Madonna’s publicist Liz Rosenberg: “Some people were uncomfortable with some scenes. But she plays a really dislikable person. Some people might think her character deserves what she gets.”
The film is still scheduled to open in North America in September.
