In a desperate bid to get to the top spot on the British singles charts, Madonna’s ‘Hollywood’ CD is selling at just £1.99. Other new releases such as Eminem’s ‘Business’ and Beyonce Knowles’s ‘Crazy In Love’ sell for £3.99 and in some cases £4.99. Despite the lower price, ‘Hollywood’ has managed to sell just 16,000 copies, less than Beyonce’s chart topping 27,500 units. “This is an embarrassment for Madonna,” a music industry insider said. “She is supposed to be the queen of pop and she can’t even get to No 1 with what is supposed to be the strongest song on her album. It’s highly unusual for someone as high-profile as her to be selling her single for such a low price. It smacks of desperation. The discount trick hasn’t worked. It does make you wonder if people are losing interest in Madonna’s music.”
