So, I am finally back in L.A. from a whirlwind trip to New York City where I can honestly say I have never had a better, more enjoyable time promoting a movie. This is so different for me. For one, this is not 100% my movie (which I LOVE!)… I share this movie with the amazing actors, tireless producers, and one truly talented director. The whole week in New York led up to a weekend that was WAY beyond any of our comprehension. Our little movie only showed in 20 theatres across the country but grossed more than anyone ever expected!! Needless to say, we celebrated BIG time yesterday and now look forward to growing into almost 40 markets in the next couple of weeks. As I have said in all interviews, this is such an important movie for us to be a part of because it’s essentially for YOU. I really believe that in my heart and hope that everyone gets the opportunity to see it as it challenges and questions issues that are relevant and thought-provoking. I know that is something that we ALL need from a film once in a while. So many film makers cater to a certain audience and believe that “we” need to be “dumbed-down” to and want themes and ideas delivered on a silver platter, rarely leaving some questioning on behalf of the audience. Anyway, needless to say, it has been an incredible week and I have had an amazing time being part of this. Thanks to all of you who helped launch this “little train that could” by going to check it out. I am so looking forward to hearing your thoughts about it.
“Romance and Cigarettes” has wrapped and I, unfortunately, am back home missing the heck out of NYC. It was amazing to have lived alone for the first time and to have the city all to myself. I walked away from the movie in such awe of the talent I got to work with. Along with that, I made some incredible friends on and off set. John Turturro is DEFINITELY someone I would work with at the drop of a hat—love him. I feel like he and the whole experience brought out the best in me. Can’t wait to see how the movie turns out—I think it should be coming out sometime early next year.
I’ve been taking meetings with some producers to begin recording for my first Sire/Warner Bros. album. I am beyond elated to get into the studio. Blank slate. No baggage. No history with anyone. PERFECT! I have been writing quite a bit lately and hope to hook up and collaborate with some great songwriters. If all goes according to my plan, I’m anticipating the record to be completed by this Fall and ready to be released early next year.
For now, I’m also spending time in L.A. meeting with several film projects – all very different from one another but also some really challenging roles. I think all of the press and reviews on “Saved!” have helped some people see a side of me that I haven’t gotten to show in my films. It’s made me feel really good about where I am going next.
That’s it for now. Looking forward to hearing your feedback on the new site. Again, it is a work in progress but already I feel like it is going to rock! Hope you guys are all well and beginning to enjoy a great summer.
