Malcolm X Abram of the Beacon Journal profiled Avril Lavigne, hitting a sore subject with many of her fans, and backing up the beliefs of her foes. He writes, “In truth, her CD is just as manufactured a piece of product as any of the music unleashed by the performers she effectively replaced. Nearly all of the songs were co-written with veteran producer/arranger Cliff Magness or up-and-coming songwriting trio The Matrix.” But fear not Avril fans, he added, “like a few other young singers who made a big splash with their debuts, one of Lavigne’s biggest assets is her potential.” Abram adds that Avril isn’t doing press for her current tour.
