Mariah Carey Disappoints In China

One of Mariah’s fans has posted on the fansite Friends of Mariah messageboard that Mariah’s concert in Shanghai was a major disappointment and many of her Chinese fans were even leaving early because it was such a disaster. The concert was outside in the cold and Mariah as usual insisted on wearing her skimpy outfits and even cut several songs short. The fan indicates her voice sounded bad too.

Read on for the whole review by the fan who by the way goes by the name Irresistable Boy LOL.

Well Guys, I just got back from the Shanghai concert…and all I can say is that I am disappointed. This is my first Mariah concert live and I had such high expectations after hearing the other concert files. There where more than 20,000 people present You can say that the stadium of 29,000 was 90-95% full. I was seated at the front row (row 14) and could see Mariah very clearly and closely.

The show started an hour late with many of the Chinese fans complaining that is should have started on time, but they are not really used to international acts. There show started on the wrong footing when at beginning of, I expected Mariah to come out from behind and walk through the crowd but when they started Heartbreaker she was already singing the first few lines and people where looking for her and she just came out on the stage. The stage was very small so there wasn’t enough room for her to move in. The crowd was very boring and proper. They just down the whole and told me and my friends to sit down when we were standing, and they didn’t know most of the songs. I guess the chinese are not very used yet to international superstar acts so they don’t know how to respond yet to an international performer.

The show was very short, about 1 hour and 15 minutes and SHE CUT OFF 5 SONGS (SI, CLOWN, BOTH, ABMB, VOL). So I felt cheated paying 200$ for a 1 hour show (She was gone changing all the time and Trey Lorenz sang) and the other chinese felt cheated as well (this is a lot of money for Asia or for any part of the world for a concert).

Her voice was raspy and not in the very best condition, she had a hard time reaching the high notes and I know because I have the files of her other concerts to prove it. I guess this mess of a concert can be attributed to the weather. The weather in Shanghai is very cold right now and anyone wearing those outfits (the same ones in the other concerts) would have been freezing their asses off and not be able to sing properly. It just makes me wonder what was going on in the head of Mariah wearing these outifts for the concert. She could have just put on some more warm clothes to protect her voice and performance but she still wore the skimpy ones….yes she looked good but it is like wearing a bikini outdoors in winter…it doesn’t make sense and it is not good for your health.

The highlight of the show was Without You and Hero when everybody stood up and sang along and you felt the excitement in the air. But it was too late since the show was already ending. Some people where leaving after Make It Happen and one of the dancers had to come out to guide the audience to chant for an encore. After the show, people left complaining how short the show was and unsatisfied.

I was just disappointed thinking that Mariah didn’t do her best to entertain the audience. She came, she sang, she danced a little, and then changed outfits, didn’t do much interaction with the crowd or tried to bring them up to their feet. The crowd was just waiting for her to tell them to stand up and dance or clap their hands, they were just waiting to be guided. MAYBE I SHOULD BLAME THE WEATHER FOR THIS, MAYBE MARIAH IS NOT FEELING VERY WELL but expect some bad reviews from the Chinese press tomorrow. I hope she has learned her lesson and wear something more warm for the Friday show and give a much better performance.

If she goes to the Philippines with this type of performance, its much better for her to cancel the show, because the Filipinos will be her harshest critic since they know her songs by heart and they expect to be bowled over.

ANYWAY, I STILL LOVE MARIAH AND JUST WANTED TO SHARE WITH YOU GUYS MY CONCERT EXPERIENCE. I WAS HOPING TO WRITE SOMETHING MORE POSITIVE AND RAVE ABOUT THE CONCERT BUT THIS IS HOW I FEEL AT THIS POINT AND I WANT TO BE OBJECTIVE. I ENVY THE OTHERS WHO HAVE HAD ATTENDED THE PREVIOUS CONCERT WHERE SHE SOUNDED GREAT. I HOPE THE OTHERS WHO WILL WATCH THE FUTURE SHOWS WILL HAVE A MUCH GREATER TIME AND THAT SHE WILL GIVE THE BEST PERFORMANCE OF HER LIFE. I’LL JUST WAIT FOR THE DVD TO EXPERIENCE IT. GOOD LUCK MARIAH AND BEST WISHES!!!!
