Mariah Carey Talks ‘Through The Rain’

MTV’s John Norris caught up with Mariah Carey in New York for Total Request Live on Tuesday, where she’s filming her new video ‘Through The Rain’. Telling Mariah “she’s back”, the diva responded, “I’ve been here for years, ha-ha. Working on this album has been really like something that was great to immerse myself in because I realized how that really always has been my saving grace.”

Asked if ‘Through The Rain’ was a reference to the year she’s been through, Mariah responded, “Well ‘Through the Rain’ was the first song I wrote for this album. Uhm, and I really didn’t write it for the album, I wrote it for myself. The stuff they talked about in the tabloids and the things so overexaggerated, you know, that’s one aspect. But I also went through a lot of personal stuff, a lot of family stuff this year, you know losing a parent is an intense thing. Uhm, for anybody. And so it’s like it’s brought me to another place.”

Mariah talked about the video explaining, “It’s sort of like an interracial couple who are sort of Romeo and Juliet but set in the ’60s, they are like torn apart.”

Is the new album her most sentimental or most vulnerable yet? “It’s not like I’m suddenly going to write this woeful album, you know what I mean, like misery. No, I choose to turn those things into positives, ’cause that’s how I get through life.”
