Mariah Carey’s Approach Has Ruined An Entire Genre Of Singers
Jim Farber of the New York Daily News reviewed Mariah Carey’s latest effort ‘Charmbracelet’, and little of his comments were positive. Farber said, “In general, the singer doesn’t write firm melodies but fashions her songs around her meandering phrasing, the better to showcase the furthest range of her vocals. It’s a show-offy approach that has damaged not only Carey’s art but the culture at large. As one of the most commercial and influential singers of the last decade, Carey has ruined an entire generation of singers, making them believe it’s the height of talent to impersonate a ‘Star Search’ contestant.”
