Matrix On Avril Lavigne & Britney Spears
The New York Times spoke with Lauren Christy and Sandy Roberton of the Matrix about their thrust into the spotlight thanks to the #1 hits they wrote for Avril Lavigne. Christy said of ‘Complicated’, which they wrote overnight: “Somebody in the industry sat us down and said, ‘I’d bet my house that this song is going to go to No. 1.’ We just couldn’t believe it. But he was right. Then the next two singles went to No. 1 as well. And our lives changed.”
Now Matrix is working with Britney Spears, Ricky Martin and David Bowie. Christy said of Spears: “Britney was great. She said, ‘I really loved that ‘I’m With You’ song you did with Avril.’ She knows she’s not going to do a song like that, but she wanted something really melodic.” Read more.
Weird Al Spoofs Avril Lavigne’s ‘Complicated’
May 7, 2003 – RollingStone.com reports Weird Al Yankovic’s new album ‘Poodle Hat’, out May 20th, will include parodies of Eminem, Avril Lavigne, Nelly and the Backstreet Boys. Yankovic’s struggle to successfully ape Lavigne’s ‘Complicated’ gave his version its title, ‘A Complicated Song.’ “I knew I wanted to do a parody of that song,” he says. “I had literally twenty different versions and none of the versions would sustain for an entire song. So I wound up taking three of my favorite ideas and basically interweaving them together.”
Big Al Meets Avril Lavigne
May 5, 2003 – Is it possible to interview someone in person without seeing their face? Apparently so, in yet another less than interesting interview with Avril Lavigne. At least Big Al from the Kidd Kraddick show got her to open up about her love life, the effects of touring, young girls dressing like her, and the place she calls home. Audio has since been removed.
