Meiko EPK

Meiko EPK is out with an electronic press kit (EPK), where the singer songwriter explained her name and talked having “really bad stage fright” which she had to overcome, writing a lot of her songs in her bathroom, the story behind her favorite song ‘Boys with Girlfriends’, and working with producer Greg Collins on her MySpace Records self-titled debut album, which is out on iTunes tomorrow.

“I’m a quarter Japanese. Japanese pronounce it ‘May-koh’, but I’m ‘Mee-koh’, and I spell it M-e-i-k-o,” she said. “It’s an American spelling of a Japanese name. I started playing guitar when I was 13 and I never really thought I would have or I could have a career in music. I have really bad stage fright. It took me a good 2 years of living here before I even had enough balls to go play my first open mic night.”

The video clip at MySpace has since been removed.

I LOVE Meiko! I saw her a few times at the Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles – she’s so down to earth – and she’s SO funny onstage!

I can’t wait for her album – I’m gonna get it on iTunes tomorrow.

Funny to see Meiko grouped in with pop artists like Ashley Simpson and Hillary Duff – Meiko’s much more like Fiona Apple and Regina Spektor (not knocking the others though!)…
