Elysa Gardner of USA Today profiled how several post-adolescent singer/songwriters have broken out without the help of radio airplay, such as Colbie Caillat, Marie Digby, Meiko, and Sara Bareilles. Instead, they have caught on thanks to their music being featured on television shows or virally via YouTube and MySpace. After her ‘Umbrella’ cover caught fire on YouTube, Digby “got an e-mail from someone saying he was the music supervisor for The Hills.
