Michael Jackson responded to reports that there are secret tape of him being critical of his fans on his HIStory Tour in 1996. “Recently, there has been a rumor circulating where I am accused of bad-mouthing my fans,” Jackson wrote. “I was deeply hurt when I heard about this. As an artist and performer, the most rewarding part of my work is to know that I have such loyal and supportive fans. I would never resort to any such negativity. Like so many other allegations, this is a lie. I love my fans and appreciate you all so much. I would never take that for granted.”
