Michelle Branch spoke with Steve Baltin of RollingStone.com about her work in progress on her sophomore album. “I’m being selfish,” Branch admitted. “It could be finished right now, but I want to take more time and see what else I can come up with, just because it’s fun and I have the luxury of doing it.” The singer says she’s gained a lot of confidence in the past year. “With the first record I had creative control, but it’s definitely a different thing,” Branch explained. “A lot of the lyrics I’m writing are more personal. It was very strange for me to be out on the road and grow up so much without really having my parents there to witness it. I make my own decisions now, and it’s a pretty scary, yet powerful thing. I think that the main theme of this new record is independence.”
