Misstep After Misstep, Backlash After Backlash For Madonna

The title of this post, I think, aptly summarizes what is all about nowadays. A big star back in the early 80s, she was known as the mistress of media manipulation and successful publicity stunts. Fast forward to 2006: she’s now an aged D-list celebrity doing everything in whatever is left of her clout to stay in the limelight. Sadly though, nothing seems to work. The “comeback” CD flopped. The tour, in spite of raving press releases from her own camp, failed miserably. Last resort: “adopt” an “orphan” from a Third World country. Sadly again, that too tanked. And thanks to the raging and unforgiving public outrage for it, her upcoming children’s book (another scheme to restore faded glory) will definitely gather dust in the bookstores as sure as the fact that none of her songs will ever be played on radio again. Add insult to injury, she was also forced to let her concert be aired heavily cut. Whatever happened to the gutsy, in-control Madonna of old? She lost it. Hell, even a struggling network like NBC can now easily bully her.

Blame it all on “American Life.” That life-altering bomb of a CD changed forever. It made her realize that even a Madonna’s career can die. It made her lose her balls. And she will never recover from it from the looks of it. Henceforth, for Madonna, it will only be missteps after missteps, backlashes after backlashes. She should just stop before she can no longer handle the embarrassments she lay upon herself.

Says Malawian Boy Is Thriving

October 25, 2006 – Madonna tells ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’ she was worried the firestorm of publicity that surrounded her adoption of David Banda may dissuade other parents from adopting children from Africa. “I’m disappointed because more than anything it discourages other people from doing the same thing,” she said. “I feel the media is doing a great disservice to all the orphans of Africa, period, not just the orphans of Malawi.”

David Fitting In With Lourdes And Rocco

October 25, 2006 – Roger Friedman of FoxNews.com hears that on Sunday night (October 22), Madonna and Guy Ritchie introduced their adopted 13-month-old son David to friends at their London estate. The Malawian boy has already fit right in with Lourdes and Rocco, according to an observer. Read more.

Madonna’s Rep: David’s Dad Was Provoked By Reporters

October 25, 2006 – Madonna’s spokeswoman Liz Rosenberg spoke with The New York Daily News about complaints made by Yohane Banda, the father of the singer’s 1-year old adopted boy, who said he thought the Material Girl was only going to “look after my child until he finishes school.” Rosenberg insisted, “I can say with absolute certainty that Yohane was fully aware that Madonna and Guy [Ritchie] were adopting David. Any reservations you are reading about in the media were, I’m sure, based on his being provoked by reporters. When and how often the baby returns to Malawi is not information I feel obliged to provide.”
