Andrew Flynn of the Canadian Press was backstage at Wednesday night’s Grammys where rap pioneer Missy Elliott praised Canada’s own Nelly Furtado. Missy said of the singer she collaborated with on ‘Get Ur Freak On’, “She has a real uniqueness in her voice and I love to listen to the different sounds, and that’s what attracted me to Nelly. I saw her on the video [for I'm Like a Bird] and she had on this shell and these Adidas shoes — she wasn’t in hip huggers and this little bra top, she just had on some jeans. I felt like she wasn’t following a trend, like she was a far left person like myself.”
