The Kingston Whig-Standard reports that the Canadian House of Commons gave praise to Napanee’s own Avril Lavigne on Monday (January 27). Hastings-Frontenac-Lennox and Addington MP Larry McCormick said, “Mr. Speaker, thank you for this opportunity to recognize a young woman whose home town – indeed her whole country – celebrates her success. Avril is from Napanee, the largest town in my riding … but a small town just the same.” He added, “We take pleasure in knowing that Avril grew up here, sang gospel at Evangel Temple [and] practiced, practiced, practiced. She sang at local fairs and events and attended school at Napanee District Secondary School, as I did.”
