Greg Quill of the Toronto Star spoke with Nelly Furtado where she explained the process of writing a pop song. Nelly said simply, “Lyrics and melody make a pop song – that’s all there is. Beyond that, I’m like a cultural and musical sponge, I just soak everything in and squeeze it out for my own music. Sometimes I feel like a musical anthropologist.”
