Alan Sculley of the Detroit News talked with Nelly Furtado about her decision to incorporate her Portuguese with upbeat pop. Furtado revealed, “I kind of had this idea, the light bulb of ‘Wow, I can (incorporate) Portuguese.’ It was connecting with me so much because I’m so influenced by Portugal and I’ve sung in Portuguese and I love the instrumentation and the creativity. I think I can bring this to a pop record.”
