Nick Lachey Performs On The Tonight Show

Nick Lachey of 98 Degrees performed ‘This I Swear’ off his new album ‘SoulO’ on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Monday. Afterwards, he briefly talked about the reality show with wife Jessica Simpson and they joked a bit about her Chicken of the Sea gaffe. Read on for a transcript.

Jay: Hey, man, good job, buddy. Have a seat.

[ Cheers ] Hey, I got to ask you now. I haven’t seen since you started
this reality show. Tell people quickly what it’s about. We got a second
here .

Nick: It’s basically my life with my wife, Jessica Simpson, in every
possible detailed way.

Jay: It’s your first year of marriage. Why do you want those idiots
following you around with cameras?

Nick: You know what? When you look back at your life, it’s just a unique
opportunity. And what better video to show the grandkids one day, you know?
“Here’s mom and dad making fools of themselves, burping on tv.” All of
the things my wife likes to do.

Jay: Now like, that embarrassing — [ Laughter ] Like, that chicken
of the sea thing. Now tell me about that.

[ Cheers and applause ]

Nick: She and I had a big sitdown after that. And I carefully explained
– we went through the pantry. And I went through every item. And I said,
so this doesn’t happen again on camera.

Jay: Okay so, what happened. You were eating tuna fish.

Nick: We were eating tuna fish in a bowl, and she said, “is this chicken
or tuna I’m eating? Because I know it’s tuna, but it says ‘chicken of the
sea’?”

[ Laughter ] And what I found is a lot of people actually didn’t understand
what “chicken of the sea” was. In fact –

Jay: Nick?

Nick: She’s alone?

Jay: No, people know.

[ Laughter ]

Nick: All right. Maybe — I was trying to cover for her.

Jay: Happens to everybody.

Nick: I was trying to cover for her.

Jay: This is the new cd. “Soulo.” Very good, you did a very nice job.

Nick: Thank you. Thanks for having me.
