Not Just Huge Salaries Behind Dropping Of Big Names

The Herald Sun reports music labels have seeked to reduce costs at a time of slowing CD sales and growing music piracy, which was behind EMI’s decision to part ways with Mariah Carey. The label could not take the risk of another expensive failure. Part of huge expense of Mariah was her many handlers, prompting a Virgin Records exec to say of her and other high profile acts that have recently been cut to say, “It’s not just the salary. There are all the add-ons, such as first-class travel and beauticians which many artists have become accustomed to.”
