Official EMI & Mariah Carey Statements On $49 Million Exit

AP has more on the war of words following the EMI statement that Mariah was ‘terminated’ from the record company, drawing the ire of Carey’s lawyer Marshall Grossman. The two parties had crafted a more friendly release indicating the breakup was amicable with EMI’s new chairman, Alain Levy, saying, “We have decided that this is the most prudent course of action for EMI. We wish Mariah the best.” Carey’s carefully crafted comment was, “This is the right decision for me. I look forward to the many new and exciting opportunities, which have now been presented to me. I wish Virgin well.”
