Singer/pianist Oleta Adams tells Mark Brown of the Rocky Mountain News she has sympathy for performers such as Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera – singers who have genuinely amazing voices, yet seem so lost in their celebrity and image-making that they don’t take advantage of their gift. “But they think they are – they think they are taking advantage of it,” Adams says. “Most people don’t understand what happens when you get in that particular arena. You’ve got a lot of people talking to you. It’s difficult to maintain what you had. The focus gets off course.”
