Janet Jackson’s mother has to leave her daughter’s concerts half way through – because the singer’s performances are too racy for her. 71-year-old Katherine Jackson is escorted out of Jackson’s shows every time she sings ‘Would You Mind’. A source says, “The song is always accompanied by Jackson gyrating her groin in the face of a male audience member strapped to a gurney. “Once the song is over, Janet’s mother is brought back to her seat so she can watch the rest of the concert.”
O-Town, Concert, South Bend, IN 8/4/01
I’ve read so many bad reviews and criticisms about OTOWN, their album, their television show, and their live show… and I’ve yet to understand why. At least the live show part. In my opinion, no one can TOUCH their live show. They pull off the singing and dancing without lipsynching great, and the show’s nonstop, full of energy. There aren’t many special effects such as the ones you find at an *NSYNC or Backstreet show, but their actual raw talent makes up for that. They strum the guitar a few times, Ashley Angel (“the cute one”) accompanies their hit single, “All or Nothing”, with playing the piano, and their harmonies are incredible. I took my 21 year old cousin with me.. a hard core rock fan, and even she was impressed. Mostly by Jacob Underwood (“the rebel”), who is definitely a true rocker at heart.. and that most definitely shines through on stage. However, unlike my cousin, not everyone not impressed with boybands will enjoy the show.. but I do think a great majority will. If you go with an open mind, and open eyes.. there’s no doubt you’ll see where I’m coming from. Even if not your “type”, they get the crowd hyped, and they’re enjoying themselves.. something you don’t always see in artists’ eyes today. Unfortunately, due to certain circumstances I missed some of the show, though there the whole time, but what I saw was definitely great, and my two best friends who joined me and didn’t miss a moment thought it was even better. And though it still may not be convincing, this being written from a teen girl’s point of view, it more and likely will automatically be considered bias and lack of taste due to the “teenybopper” stereotype, but .. one of my two friends went to the concert rather skeptical, and came home .. though not the biggest, definitely, a fan. :)
The Enquirer is reporting this week that a pair of freak accidents awhile back while she was still married to Rene Elizondo left her with both eyelids swelled up to the size of golf balls leaving her almost completely blind for a month.
The incident left Janet to become aware of the problems in her and Rene’s marriage as a friend revealed, “Janet was literally BLIND and Rene basically ignored her.”
“He was worried about other things while Janet was lying in bed in agonizing pain. That was devastating for Janet. How could he not care about her at all?!”
Well again a British tabloid (and The Star as well) is reporting that Britney Spears and longtime boyfriend Justin Timberlake are engaged. The Sun’s Clodagh Hartley reports Justin proposed while the two were recording the track where Justin provides backing vocals on Britney’s new album.
An insider revealed details of the proposal saying, “At first Britney played it up. Justin’s heart must have been in his mouth. She acted like she was going to say no.
“Then she started to cry and said: “Yes! Yes! Yes! I’ll marry you’. It was so sweet.
“When she accepted Justin cried as well. He pulled the earphone off and gave her a big soppy kiss. It was all very mushy.”
An insider also says Justin borrowed one of his mother’s rings to make the proposal and because it was too tight, Britney’s been wearing it around her neck.
Timberlake Ready To Shed Squeaky Clean Image
August 28, 2001 – The Village Voice’s Michael Musto talked to Steven Klein who photographed Justin Timberlake for his upcoming appearance in Arena Hommes Plus magazine. Klein reveals the spread will startlingly present Justin in the role of “a suburban kid, kind of violent.” Klein says, “You have to kill to have a rebirth.”
USOpen.org had a brief chat with young tennis star Andy Roddick where he was asked about rumors that he and Jessica may have met and exchanged telephone numbers. Andy denied the reports and said it has been a distraction for him at this year’s tennis tournament.

Pop Scarce In This Week’s Top 10, *NSYNC Continues Lower
August 29, 2001 – SoundScan figures for the week show *NSYNC’s Celebrity continue lower as rock and R&B acts litter the top 10, including Maxwell in the #1 position with Now. *NSYNC sold 138,555 albums for the week putting them in the #5 position, down from #3 last week. Jennifer Lopez rounded out the top 10 selling 91,657 records for the week.
A story on MTVasia that no doubt originated w/ a British tabloid as Britney’s quoted using the word ‘rubbish’.
Apparently Britney would like to work with Samantha when the two have time in their schedules to do so.
Britney admits, “One of my favorite singers at the moment is Samantha Mumba.
“I think she has a lot of class and talent and it’s rubbish when people say we are rivals. There are a lot of people I would like to duet with and Samantha is one of them.”
Dream apparently is catching the wanting to write and produce bandwagon following the success of the Puffy backed groups first album.
Melissa Schuman tells MTV, “We want to write a lot on this album and produce. We got a taste of that on our last album a little bit, but we’re gonna take advantage of it this time.”
The group says they aren’t finished on their first album’s work though, as they’ll shoot a video for In My Dreams in a few weeks.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Kevin John Bozelka ripped into Aaron Carter’s Wednesday night show for Nickelodeon’s TEENick Presents Aaron’s Party at the Marcus Amphitheater.
Aaron’s sister Leslie was scheduled to appear but did not perform, but brother Aaron’s performance was said to not “have enough material to make for a compelling hour-plus of live entertainment. So all sorts of dreary tricks were used to fill in the spaces.”
Bozelka says the show is filled with Silly Putty fights and video testimonials to Carter’s cuteness among other snoozing skits.
The critic admits it’s a pretty harsh review for a 13 year old performer, but says Carter wants to be taken seriously so it basically comes with the territory.
Bozelka felt opening act, the A*Teens were “infinitely superior.”
