While ’s 2001 English debut ‘Laundry Service’ vaulted her into global superstardom, it also gave her the resources to put together a world-class concert. “It’s the production of my dreams,” she told Ramiro Burr of the Houston Chronicle. “It took 13 or 14 years of my career to get to this point. It’s wonderful to have this team of people working on my production. They’re the same people who’ve produced U2 and Rolling Stones. It’s everything I wanted to have artistically, and it really allows me to express myself the way I want to.”

Tatu Debut Reeks Of Exploitation

Malcolm X Abram of the Beacon Journal reviewed ’200 Km/hr in the Wrong Lane’, the debut effort by Abram writes, “Despite the singers’ apparent sincerity (the CD also includes some ‘behind the scenes’ interview footage), the whole endeavor smells of exploitation. The image of a group of grown men trying to express the emotions of two girls and their forbidden love seems a bit unseemly and disingenuous. Then again, perhaps 42 minutes of carefully constructed and marketed dance-pop can help a few kids feel better about their own ‘forbidden’ feelings.”

This Week’s Hot 100 Singles

This week’s Billboard Singles Charts isn’t much changed, from last week. Starting from the bottom, is stranded at #92, Christina Aguilera’s, ‘Dirrty,’ jumps 3 to #84, and keeps falling landing in at #83. Lonestar is this week’s ‘Hot Shot Debut,’ in #73, *NSYNC’s makes a high jump 85-63, same thing goes for t.A.T.u 78-55. Good Charlotte make top 30 in at #26, R. Kelly’s latest jumps from #38 to #21, and Pink struggles to hold on to the top 20,in at at exactly #20. The rest of the top 20 doesn’t really differ, and LL Cool J’s duet dives in at #10, Justin Timberlake is the greatest gainer of radio play and he comes in at #8, and Avril Lavigne’s, ‘I’m With You,’ comes in at #7. The top 5 had a shake up, Christina Aguilera jumped from #6 to #4, B2K made it to #2, and Eminem’s ‘Lose Yourself,’ remains at #1.

Chuck Campbell of Scripps Howard News Service reviewed ’s English debut ’200 KM/H in the Wrong Lane’, giving it a C grade. Campbell writes, “It’s safe to say has an angle America’s pop scene has never witnessed: two pretty teenage Russian lesbians who get it on with each other. That’s the novelty of the duo’s video for ‘All the Things She Said,’ where Lena Katina and Julia Volkova don school uniforms and make out in a rainstorm, their shirts clinging to their bodies. Contrived? Absolutely. But the two very likely are Russians, probably are teenagers and possibly are even lesbians (or at the very least bisexuals, given their enthusiasm for each other). And even if the lesbian part turns out to be a fabrication, the fantasy is still there for gay women, not to mention more than a few straight men.”

Jodie Tes Describes The Story Behind ‘Tonite’

Triple J caught up with Perth artist Jodie Tes recently and asked the singer about ‘Tonite’, the first single off her upcoming EP due out next month. “The song is basically a love song from someone who is looking for love wherever they can get it,” she said. “I used old roller-skating terms like ‘snowball’ and ‘speed-skating’ from when I was a kid, which seemed weird when I was writing it. Nick Carter And Sue Bird Rumor Turns Into Tempest In A Teapot

Adrian Ryan of the Stranger checked back in after revealing in her last column that Backstreet Boys star was dating Seattle Storm b-baller Sue Bird. Ryan writes, “Well, that, and I’ve been lying low lately–on the ‘D.L.’ if ya num sayin’. That retold tale I innocently re-retold about dating Seattle Stormer Sue Bird has for SOME unfathomable reason transformed into a tempest in a teapot in a hornets’ nest stuffed with tempest-tossed, teetotalling hornets. Or something. Check out this cheerful communiqué: ‘Adrian, Yes, Sue is a friend of Nick’s and I sugest [sic] that you drop the subject….’ Egads! A cyber-threat?”

The 12th annual cross-Canada Music Critics Poll is in and amongst the “winners” were for ‘This Is Me… Then’ with Worst Album, Worst Single had Christina Aguilera’s ‘Dirrty’ tie with ’s ‘The Ketchup Song’ in the #2 spot, behind Chad Kroeger feat. Josey Scott on ‘Hero’. Third in the Can’t Believe The Hype category was Avril Lavigne, behind The Vines and Eminem. On Lavigne, John Sakamoto commented, “The indignant griping over the so-called manufactured authenticity of Avril Lavigne’s image was one of the year’s more puzzling diversions. Pop music has never been about authenticity. It’s about verisimilitude — something that’ll become painfully evident in ’03 as we’re being bombarded by a brigade of teen singers using T-shirts and ties as signifiers of ‘realness.’”

Madonna Skips Golden Globes To Attend To Sick Son

The Sunday Mirror reports ’s last-minute cancellation from tonight’s Golden Globe Awards is because her son Rocco is sick. has chosen to stay at the two-year-old’s bedside at the family’s home in Beverly Hills. It has not been revealed what is wrong with Rocco, but a source close to the star said: “He seems to be quite sick. All will say is that she is not attending the Globes because of a family emergency.”

The Sunday Mail reports could be preparing to leave Britain after pulling her daughter from the French Lycee, an exclusive London school. The move has fueled rumors that her marriage to Guy Ritchie is in trouble. The singer also pulled out of the Golden Globe Awards at the last minute, citing a “family emergency.” A source at the awards show said, “She sounded worried but she wouldn’t elaborate.”
