Patrick MacDonald of the Seattle Times profiled the rise of Nelly Furtado’s career ahead of this singer’s show at Seattle’s Paramount Theatre on Wednesday. Nelly caught the interest of the Canadian rock band The Philosopher Kings and their manager, Chris Smith while performing and losing in a Toronto talent contest. They urged her to make a demo of her songs so they could submit it to labels. But Furtado the modest singer thought her songwriting wasn’t good enough, and returned home. Luckily, they kept bugging her and it paid off.
