Oliver Holt of The Mirror is weighing in on David Beckham’s sub-par performance at the Euro 2004 soccer championships and seems to be targetting blame on his former Spice Girls wife, Victoria. Holt writes, “Beckham wasted a rare chance for a summer break last year by chasing around the world trying to boost his wife’s career in America and promote his own endorsements in the Far East. The high-profile trip to the States, in particular, lent more weight to arguments that Victoria Beckham’s thirst for publicity was undermining her husband’s football career. Her obsessive need to be in the public eye constantly is at odds with a footballer’s need for rest and recuperation whenever he can grab it. The reality is that their worlds do not complement each other. If she does not start to make compromises, she risks being seen as the Yoko Ono. The woman who split Beckham from his domination of the game he loves.”
