Rachael Yamagata visited NPR Studio 4A along with her bandmates Jason Kanakis and Johnny Flaughers, performing songs from her new double album, ‘Elephants… Teeth Sinking Into Heart’. Between tracks, the singer songwriter also chatted with host Michelle Martin. “The writing part is what I really need for my own soul,” Yamagata said of the creative process. “It’s what makes me able to overcome heartaches or traumatic situations. I write much more openly than I ever do in conversation with a friend.” Listen to the interview, performances of ‘Elephants’ and ‘Sunday Afternoon and watch footage of her ‘Faster’ performance at NPR.org.
