Rebecca Black Won’t Give Haters Satisfaction By Taking Down ‘Friday’

spoke with the Orange County Register about the music video she did for her song ‘Friday’ has exploded on YouTube, getting over 14 million views and getting a lot of detractors in the process. “I think I broke down in tears just about then, and I thought, ‘Well, this isn’t good. I’m getting views, but this isn’t the way I wanted them’,” the 13-year-old said. “I really thought, ‘Should I have not done this? This is my fault, I should have gone with the other song.’ I haven’t ever gotten that much hate. I thought the world is going to hate me. My self-confidence had dropped down to the ground. I thought I’d get made fun of at school.”

But after speaking with her mother and hearing she had been receiving offers for TV spots after her YouTube views started racking up, her feelings changed a bit. “I’m like, ‘Well, maybe this is a good thing – you never know,'” Rebecca explained. “My mom said to me, ‘We can either keep it up (on YouTube) or take it down.’ I said, ‘No, I’m not going to give them the satisfaction of making me take it down.’ I said, ‘No, this is going to work out. I just want to let it go. Let it do its thing.'”
