At the ALMA awards on Saturday, Ricky Martin received the National Council of La Raza Vanguard Award, Christina Aguilera won Outstanding Song in a Motion Picture Soundtrack for the ‘Moulin Rouge’ hit ‘Lady Marmalade, Jennifer Lopez won 2002 ALMA People’s Outstanding Music Video Award, and Shakira won Outstanding Female Performer as well as the Album of the Year with ‘Laundry Service’. The awards took place at the historic Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles and will air on ABC, June 1, 8:00pm – 10:00 pm.
Ricky Martin Explains Move To Record Spanish Album
Leila Cobo of Billboard.com reports Ricky Martin is planning to release both English and Spanish albums by year-end. Ricky explained the move saying that Latin artists shouldn’t forget where they came from after crossing over into the English market. Why? “Because there’s a very large industry we have to support, there’s great Latin American composers, great musicians, great labels, and we can’t leave that to one side,” he said. “It’s very important to assert what we have.”

Weinstein Courting Ricky Martin For ‘Dirty Dancing’ Sequel
Ananova reports Miramax Pictures’ Harvey Weinstein has been courting Ricky Martin to make his movie debut in a sequel to ‘Dirty Dancing’. Ricky would star opposite Natalie Portman in ‘Dirty Dancing 2’ and be set in Miami. A source revealed, “Martin has been searching for the right kind of vehicle which might involve dancing and perhaps a song or two. He likes Harvey’s ideas.”
