Queen guitarist Brian May revealed that Robbie Williams came close to replacing the late Freddie Mercury for the band’s reunion tour. “We got close with Robbie,” May said. “We thought, ‘Wouldn’t it be fun if we did something.’ It came close.” The plan fell apart after doubts crept in as to whether it could work because of Robbie’s superstar status, prompting them to offer the job to Free singer Paul Rodgers instead.
