Rooney hopes their just released self titled debut will help reshape the pop landscape. The group uses the single ‘Popstars’ to lash out at acts like Britney Spears and *NSYNC, accusing them of being “unsophisticated money machines for the killers of rock and roll.” Frontman Robert Carmine tells Rebecca Louie of the New York Daily News, “We write and play our own songs, we don’t lip-sync, there’s no band playing behind us. I feel like what is mainstream today and what is called pop is not what we see as pop. The Beatles, Buddy Holly, the Beach Boys and even the Ramones were real pop stars.”
