Sex Sells In Pop, But Men Aren’t Buying

Bernard Zuel of The Age reports that while sexy seems to have an image directed at selling to boys and men, her real audience is teenage girls. An Engine Room spokeswoman explained, “First of all you’ve got to take into account the artist’s aspirations (which were) the same for their target audience: it’s what they would want to look like when they dreamt of being a pop star. (Boys buy) in a small proportion. But the image that they’re seeing helps perpetuate and make the aspirational element even stronger. If it’s that eye-catching it’s something that people will want and want to be.” Read more.
