Shakira Says Big Butts Are Important In Latin Culture

Shakira tells Blender magazine in their March issue that she sometimes gets insecure about her looks. “Some days I would look at my reflection and see garbage, and I guess I was worried about the size of my breasts for a long time,” Shakira admits. “But now I think I have finally reached an age where I have accepted myself for who I am. And anyway, a big butt is far more important in Latin culture.”

Shakira Should Stick To Her Original Material

February 9, 2003 – Steve Knopper of the Rocky Mountain News reviewed the Shakira show at the Pepsi Center in Denver on January 29th. He didn’t sound too impressed with the Colombian singer’s performance of AC/DC’s ‘Back in Black’ and Aerosmith’s ‘Dude (Looks Like a Lady)’. Knopper says Shakira “looked like she was playing dress-up, writhing barefoot on a barrier and meekly tossing her blonde, curly hair.”

Shakira Lacks Spontaneity, But Not Authenticity

February 1, 2003 – Richard Abowitz of Las Vegas Weekly reviewed Shakira’s concert last Saturday (January 25) at the Mandalay Bay Events Center. He wasn’t impressed with the staging and choreography, but was impressed with the singer herself, especially compared to peers such as Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears.

Abowitz writes, “What Shakira lacked in spontaneity she made up for with an authentic, engaged performance and artistic confidence her peers can’t even aspire to. Where Britney and Christina seem to be floundering, whoring on different styles, hoping to match their evolving sense of identity, Shakira has grown her sound and her image with unerring confidence.”
