Chris Carle of IGN.com reviewed Ashlee Simpson’s sophomore album, giving the disc a 5 out of 10 rating. “‘I Am Me’ is a teen angst record, much like anything Avril Lavigne has released,” Carle writes. “It pretends to build its foundation on rock, but it is not far removed from something Simpson’s older sister might release, at least in spirit. This is pure pop sheen and manufactured snarl. That said, kudos to Ashlee for trying to at least emulate her idols (Pat Benatar and Blondie). She fails, but that’s secondary; a record like this is going to sell whether someone knows how to hum ‘Heart of Glass’ or not.” Read more.
