The Financial Times reports American Idol judge Simon Cowell and business partner Simon Fuller plan to produce music-based TV formats through a joint venture company with Bertelsmann, the German media group. Cowell hopes to get a larger slice of revenues by generating new music-based TV formats through his own company. “There’s no question that we will have to become a television production company as well as a record label,” Cowell said. “If we can be creating shows that can give us returns like we’ve had with Pop Idol, we’d be insane not to take advantage of it.”
